Intimity
Intimity
Intimacy is both the ability and the choice to be close, loving and vulnerable. Intimacy requires identity development. You have to know yourself and your inner self in order to share your self with another. Knowing yourself makes it possible to stand for yourself in an intimate relationship without taking over the other or losing yourself to the other. Intimacy is present in jewelry, secret and scent. The scent of everyone is very personal and intimate. That is why I choose a pomander as an inspiration source for “Intimate Jewelry”.
A pomander, from French pomme d'ambre, i.e. apple of amber, is a ball made of perfumes, such as ambergris (whence the name), musk, or civet. The pomander was worn or carried in a vase, also known by the same name, as a protection against infection in times of pestilence or merely as a useful article to modify bad smells. The globular cases which contained the pomanders were hung from a neck-chain or attached to the girdle, and were usually perforated and made of gold or silver. Sometimes they contained several partitions, in each of which was placed a different perfume. Pomanders were used in the late Middle Ages through the 17th century.
I choose silver for this pomander, which is fitted on coral arm. The red color of the coral arm is very intense, intimate and passionate. Through the small holes in pomander, you could symbolically smell the aroma. But in this piece of jewellery you can find the crystallized aroma in the small hanging plastic bottle. There are 34 garnet crystals.
